Respectful Travel in Scandinavia and the Nordics

Northern Norway is one of the world's most beautiful and unspoilt destinations. By travelling responsibly, you help protect its unique landscapes, wildlife and local communities for future generations.

Travel Responsibly:

Choose local operators
Whenever possible, travel with licensed local guides and tour operators. Supporting local businesses helps sustain Arctic communities and ensures you benefit from experienced guides with extensive local knowledge.

Follow your guide's advice
Your guide is there to keep you safe and help you get the most from your experience. Please follow all instructions regarding safety, photography locations and environmental protection.

Stay visible and stay safe
Winter days are short and roads can be dark. Wear reflective clothing when outdoors and remain aware of traffic, particularly when viewing the Northern Lights.

Respect local communities
Many Arctic villages are small, close-knit communities. Please respect the privacy of residents by staying on public paths and avoiding private property, gardens and driveways.

Share the roads safely
Whether travelling by coach or hire car, drive carefully according to weather and road conditions. Allow local traffic to pass where appropriate and avoid stopping in unsafe locations.

Respect rest areas and facilities
Roadside rest areas are often used by local drivers, including transport operators required to take regulated rest breaks. Please be considerate of others when using these facilities.

Protect Arctic wildlife
Keep a respectful distance from animals and never attempt to feed or approach reindeer, elk or other wildlife.

Leave No Trace:

Take all rubbish with you
Help keep the Arctic pristine by disposing of all rubbish responsibly, including small items such as food wrappers and cigarette butts.

Stay on designated paths and viewing areas
Protect fragile Arctic vegetation and natural habitats by remaining on established tracks whenever possible.

Use caution with open fires
Only light fires where permitted and always follow local regulations. Ensure the area is left exactly as you found it, with no evidence of your visit.

Leave only footprints, take only memories
The Arctic's beauty depends on all visitors doing their part to preserve it. Small actions make a big difference in protecting this remarkable region.

Thank you for helping us support sustainable and respectful travel throughout Northern Norway.
